I think homosexual couples should be given the same rights and opportunities as heterosexual couples.

As a married heterosexual man, I fail to understand why the marriage of two men or two women diminishes my marriage vows to my wife.

I do support it, simply because people who oppose it cannot come up with good enough answers. Many pull religion into the matter by saying that marriage is a religious issue, so the platitude "separation of church and state" does not apply. But, if it is a religious issue, which religion reigns supreme? It is plain ignorance to assume that all religious people in the country are primarily Christians. Although religions like Judaism and Islam also frown upon homosexuality, there are other religions in the country. For example, Wicca (which really is quite different than most people's perception of "witchcraft") embraces homosexuality. My point is this: there is religious freedom in this country. If marriage is a religious issue, shouldn't there be marital freedom as well? Other people say gay marriage should not be legal because, in their eyes, marriage is simply a governmental contract saying that you plan to have kids and therefore contribute to society, meaning you should get more lenient taxes. However, people have children out of wedlock every day. And does this suggest that infertile couples should not be allowed to marry? That would be absolutely absurd. But that's just my opinion.

If a gay or a lesbian choose to spend the rest of their life with the one they love and they've been like a couple for so many years, I think the government should allow them to have a civil union to provide security for the one who has become loyal to them all their lives. If they are not comfotable with marriage, they could treat it as a sort of partnership, or an incorporation, where in if something happens to one, the other half of the couple gets protection and security especially in their old age. I think this a good solution since marriage of the same sex is not acceptable especially to most religious faith. This might be acceptable to the government once proposed since gays and lesbians are citizens, too, and they have a right to inherit from their spouses for their own financial security or for their adopted families if they have them.

I am a straight, mature man,, and,, I do NOT like homos,,but,, I also believe they should have the right to financial security offered to a married man,and woman, The reality is,,marriage is a contract,,,the two people make an agreement to go through life together,, and expect to be in the will. If two homos, or lesbians, chose to live together, as a cople, then our constitution guarantees them equal rights. which means the same benifits of a real couple. I love my country dearly, and an honored to be a veteran. I fought fot the constitution, so, if you want to get married,,get married, and the hell with my preferences about sexuality. ( just do not expect me at the ceremony)

I think everyone should have the option to marriage regardless the sex preference, I believe that people that are against it come from a religious or a very ignorant backgroung or at least a religious belief, i m not a religious person but i repesct religions and therefore i think they should respect other peoples desires.
I m pretty sure one day marriage for gay people will be legal
and we will look back and see how wrong some poeple were
and how stupid society sometimes.

You know, I'm personally not a big fan of marriage in general; but since in our society marriage seems to be the thing that represents the solidifying of romantic, financial, and legal relationships, I think everyone should be given the opportunity to do that regardless of their sexual orientation (and it's "sexual orientation" not "sexual preference" 'cause "preference" implies that the person has a choice; and there is no choice in who one's physically attracted to).

Opponants of gay marriage constantly talk about "the sanctity of marriage"; well with the "Little Chapel" in Las Vegas available for quicky marriages and shows like "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire", "The Bachelor" or even "The Newlywed Game", the "sanctity" went away a long time ago.

One thing that I've thought a lot about recently that has a lot to do with this subject is people constantly talk about how gay marriage is against god's will. Well, who gave you the credentials to speak for god? More specifically, who gave you the credentials to speak for my god? When you speak of this "god's will", aren't you just really talking about your will?

Also, the way things work right now, with marriage comes a lot of legal benefits such as hospital visitation rights, power of attorney type things in case a partner becomes incapacitated, legal recognition in case there's a custody battle...If the famous blindfolded statue in front of courthouses is suppose to represent all people being equal in the eyes of the law, then queer people (I use queer in the positive sense) should be no exception.

I used to be for it. Now I think that all marriages should be seen in the eyes of the law as civil unions. Marriage has a religious connotation therefore should not be given privilege nor impediment by the government. Then we can get the hate mongers in Christian guise something to think about next time they try to impose their ideals on any other group. As for same sex unions absolutely. I was issued a social security number and expected to pay taxes. I am expected to abide by the same laws and subject to the same penal code. So why shouldn't I be able to enter into a civil contract of my own design and free will? Equality ASAP please.

I am a Christian, BUT cannot understand why the government feels the need to decide who an individual chooses to spend their life with. I suppose for tax & insurance purposes it would prob be easier to be married, I don't know???? What is next though? Is the government going to only allow us to paint our homes one color, or drive one kind of car? Don't get me wrong, I am a proud American, but there are some issues that do not involve anyone but an individual and his/her God/beliefs.

Freedom to chose is your right. Duty to oneself is your responsibility to do what is normal and natural.

Being other than the body that was made for you is not natural. Disease is rampant in the world today. AIDS is killing many people too soon in their lives.

No I cannot condone being gay!

Therefore getting married to the same sex in my way of thinking is WRONG and I will not support this addiction!

It is not called marriage. It is called unions. They were going to call it marriage but the Christian population raised hell so they called it unions. What do I think about it..Why not. The coulple will still be gay married or not. right? What they want is to have the same rights as a married couple. Pensions etc.If they live together for years and one dies why should they not. The fact that they get married as it were does not affect me what so ever.
