today some people were generalizing that all white people do the same thing and all black people do the same thing.

i dont like it when people generalize so much because i know i dont do the same thing people of my race do all the time

It bothers me too... Somebody said she can feel safe if she avoided black people as they commit heinous crimes.. I am black and have never commited a crime... i would feel worried if people suddenly avoided me..

I hate it too. Everyone's an individual person different from the next. If those same people who generalized were classified as being the same as everyone in their own racial or ethnic group or whatever, they'd probably realize that they don't follow under all of the supposed pros-and-cons of that group and would be offended as well.

I think it's wrong, and that people should try to stop doing it, but I also think it's inevitable after a certain extent. As unfair as it is for people to constantly generalize, we too are being unfair for expecting people to be morally at their best and perfect specimens of humanity. We're never going to meet everyone, and our brains can't always think in the terms of the individual because its easier to group people. Or sometimes we naturally don't have the time or the want to get to know everybody, so we just base them off of some old stereotypes and what they wear and never even talk to them. But even if we can stop stereotyping and generalizing by our own selves, even that little difference matters.

Interesting question, mainly because you made such a generalization in assuming that everyone generalizes. I do not know everyone and cannot speak for everyone. So I speak for the majority of the people I know, observe, and encounter. I guess that means that I generalize because I am referring to a large group and make it sound like I mean everyone.

yea it like so annoys me..like they are all expecting that by their looks they do a certain thing and it seems sorta racist but not in an extreme way. like if you have glasses some ppl might think you are a "nerd"...how can glasses make you a "nerd"? just because you look mean doesnt mean you cant be nice...ppl who are quick to judge by appearances should not base things on looks

Yes, that is so true that people are quick to generalize, and most of the time, they are incorrect.

I don't like it either.

But it seems to be human nature. People generalize based on color, on religion, on where you live, etc.

I hate it, too and i try not to do it, but i'm surrounded by people who are doing it in my life and it's sometimes hard not to do it with them when they start!
