I think the minimum wage in California is $7.75. Many jobs pay more than minimum in larger cities. I would suggest looking at San Diego or one of the smaller communities around San Diego.

The weather is wonderful and there are lots of things to do. Check out this site for things to do in San Diego: http://www.sandiego-romantics.com.

You could look for a roommate who already has a place at http://www.craigslist.com. This is also a good place to look for jobs. One of the more economical living situations is to rent a room in a house. Another site for job searching would be http://www.jobing.com

Good luck whatever you decide.

Two words. Portland, Oregon.

This entire state is absolutely wonderful. It blows California out of the water!!!!! Oregon is so much less "packed". Portland is the big city. About 1 million people in the metro Portland area. There have been many reports in various magazines speaking of the perks of living in Portland. If you're looking for smaller places, there are 2 other cities in Oregon with populations of over 100 thousand.

Minimum wage here is 7.80/hr. I believe it's the 3rd highest in the US.

If you choose to come to Portland, you'd need to avoid North Portland. That's always been the bad side of the tracks. Southeast Portland is nice; I've called it home for the last 12 years.

As for stores, I have no idea where you are, but I'm quire sure that we have the major stores you have. We have wonderful local grocery(Albertson's, Fred Meyer)and a lot of local flare.

The music varies. Everything from classical and opera to rock. If you like it, I'm sure we have it in Portland.

We have a major advantage. Oregon has no sales tax. If the pricetag says 14.95, you pay 14.95. We also don't have self-serve gas. People get paid here to pump it for you, so there are some stations where you simply drive up, sit in the car and wait for everything to be done for you.

So Oregon is the place. Come check it out. Plenty of room for ya to live your life anywhere, in any number of ways to please you.

California!!! moved out here from Ohio 18 years ago and have no regrets. We live in a small town..San Diego is a great place to visit..our minimum wage is higher than the federal one, not sure what it is. we have all the regular stores...target, k-mart, macy's, home depot, lowes. we offer all kinds of music and the greatest beaches.

Go south, young man, go south---right to sunny Florida! it has the best of everything. Just make sure you move to the southeast coastal region!
