Yes, you have to change phones. Cingular uses GSM phones which require a sim card to work. Verizon uses CDMA which don't use sim cards. They are two completely different technologies and are not compatible with each other. Even if you were to get your Cingular phone unlocked, it will not work with Verizon.

Well the tech gave you the answer so you are set with that. But remember that Verizon will almost always give you just about any phone free with a new account. You may need to sign up for a year or two and/or deal with a rebate. Just go in to sign up for new service, and if they try to sell you something explain you will won't change to them if you have to pay. It is amazing how quickly that will make them remember some deal that wasn't offered a couple of minutes earlier!

And if it doesn't talk to the manager or try a different store. It's just hitting the right person, both initially or when you have them upgrade you for free. I found they try to make you pay and if they see you won't then they cave. So just switch and enjoy your new phone!

i believe you'll need to change your phone. cingular and verizon don't offer any of the same phones as each other. but you could ask to be sure
