I'd like to know how racism affects you becasue it has cetainly affected me...

I'm 2/5 white and 3/5 black and most of my life I have been ashamed of being black because of how people have treated me and the nasty names people have called me. And I admit I unforunatly joined in so I would not be made fun of. But know I am very proud to be black and if people hate me, or won't date me because of my race then I don't need them in my life anyways.
So... how does racism affect you??

Racism does not affect me at all. I am not white or black. My race is "human". And that's how I fill out all the forms.

When people yell some obsenity at me, I realize whatever they say says nothing about me...but it does say something about them.

There is only one race on this planet...the human race! Rev. King and I invite you to join us and the millions of others who already live his dream.

May God bless you, cousin.

I used to think being black was the most stupidiest thing to be. I hated being black. Now I'm a grown up! I still see the stupid ones calling me the N word or some thing like it. It packs no punch! That word is like a billion years old already. I wouldn't trade my blackness for anything. Most of the sterotypes are ancient ones or could apply to anybody. Most of the jokes may have been funny in 1970, but still in they year 2007, they insist on using them. If they think of something new then I'd be shocked! That means they would have to be creative and innovative and I can't imagine that happening. So I don't let that crap get to me. you shouldn't either. Embrace both sides of you proudly. Never let a fool hold you back! you'll see. That's why they keep scrutinizing blacks and what we do.

I'm black and I DO NOT fit in with the stereotypical black population of Memphis, TN. Growing up in public schools well...yeah, this is pretty self-explanitory.

Basically it made me a social outcast. As I got older I began to hang with many different races, and then I found out that it really didn't matter what color you were, ignorant people are EVERYWHERE!

So here I am, 20 years old. And I feel that the only important thing, is how we are mentally. And I think that living in THIS CITY in THIS ERA, is what made me that way.

I really don't care if anyone hates me or doesn't hate me anymore. They're all just regular people.

being white i get called stuff like white trash an other offensive stuff i jus kinda take it as a joke i dont worry if someone doesnt like what color my skin is and i know i dont have much room to talk because white people havent been throught as much descrimination as other races but that doesnt give anyone the right to just throw out racial slurrs and some times i am ashamed of being white because of what we have done to other races because we are supposedly "better" and we are not but i just realized that it was something that was in the past and just have to accept that it happend and there is notin i can do to change that. but you should be proud of your heratige no matter what race or religion you are

Well, I'm white, but it affects me anyway. People are just ridiculous when it comes to color. I can't understand how anything so superficial could be considered when thinking about a PERSON. My German grandparents would absolutely KILL me if I dated someone who didn't at least look white. And there are people that I like who are other races, who won't consider me for who I am, because I'm not the same race.

I had allot of racism in my child hood and it was so soul destroying but i have to say in all the pain and hurt that i went through i never ever was ashamed to be Black. i just leaned to fight back. i am 43 yrs old now and unfortunately my 8 yr old son is going through the same thing ' he can't play out side that's how bad it is. But one thing i taught all my kids and i have 3 . 2 grown up. Always hold your head up high' and never' ever think any one is better than you or you are better than them. we are equal. no mater what they say. But above every thing Else always be proud of who you are. IT'S hard but you know what like you said you find your way in life and it make's you strong. Glad to hear you found your self good luck .

People hate regardless and experiencing racism made me upset when I was younger. But, all the hate I experienced made me even more determined to prove that I love who I am and nobody will change that. If you are proud of who you are, then strut it. I always said that if people hate me, too bad for them because they missed out on a fine sista! lol Seriously, Many of our people died horrific deaths because they decided that they were not going to allow someone to tell them that they are not worthy. Be proud of who you are.

Racism sucks. I was in a inter-racial marriage. I caught hell from both whites and blacks. The sad thing about all of it, is people did not know me that just judged me that quick. It was just sick. My daughter who is mixed caught heck for having a white mother, so she always felt pressured by people to pick which side to side with. My son right now is still young so he has not had to deal with this issue yet. I've always told my kids to be proud of who they are and to embrace both sides of their family and do not let anyone shame them because they have nothing to be ashamed about. My daughter has caught a lot of grief from black girls because she is mixed. Affects you a lot. People that you would think would not be racist at times can be the biggest ones of them all and our very vocal about it. The whole thing trips me out. People are all mixed anymore. You just have to learn to be happy with who you are. If people don't like you, oh well, it's their loss, that they put race before getting to know you or already pre-judging you. Sadly there are many people out there who give interacial marriages a bad name because the live up to every stero-type out there. I don't care what you look like, it's all about what is inside your heart. Hateful people do not have to worry about me being their friends are wanting to be their friends. At times you just have to shake it off because they are not worth it.

you'd think that race was a big problem for me. I joined the US Air Force. Not a lot of hispanics...... It effected me so much. I was picked on, and the fact that ii am a woman, made it worst. I got over that. Since I came out to everyone.... I'm gay, and now it is worst. Walking in mall, with my partner, is horrifing......
