I was told today that I have been approved. I got into the Social Security office on monday to give them some personal information (birth certificate, etc.)

How long do you think it will be before I get a check?
How about backpay?

To Patriot:
Yes, I do have multiple problems with working. I have lupus, both knees replaced, several bad disks in my back, and an anxiety disorder. Is that enough for you?

BTW Prior to this, I was working everyday and going to school. The money that I will be drawing comes from my own pocket, too.

Bite me.

It depends on what was decided at the SSI Hearing (if you had one) and whether a lawyer was involved or not as to how much "back pay" you may receive (if a lawyer was involved, they may get up to 33%-40% of any back pay if you agreed to a contingency fee basis.)

It would also depend on any other income you received for disability (through disability insurance through your work or workman's comp)...if you received either, your benefit for that period would be pro-rated.

It usually takes 3-4 weeks to start receiving a check after you have actually been approved. Back pay is usually awarded with the initial check.

Its been awhile, but my grandfather was on SSI and when he was approved it seemed to have taken about 2-3 weeks. I also believe that his back pay came in his initial check.

II have heard that the process takes from 3 to 6 mos. you will be required to provide all medical information on your disabling conditions..May be asked to see another Dr. to verify diagnosis and for SSi I understand you must be 100% disabled.

you don't get very much on SSi and there are limitations on other amounts of money you may have......

Good Luck guy,.....
