~Gee, what a novel notion. I wonder why no one has ever thought to ask about that before.
Why, if I were a woman, I'd burn my bra in protest. I the laundry detergent hadn't beat me to it, I might even come up with something catchy like the ERA.

I disagree. Try calculating the statistics of women who get pregnant and go on leave to take care of their babies and adjust the income, excluding pregnancy leave, on a per capita basis and then compare it to the general standards. Furthermore, I would say that the pendulum of politics has swung extremely far in the other direction with feminism and political correctness. It may have been the other way around in the past but it is very difficult being a single heterosexual male in today's society! What I am not sayng is that women are not any better or worse than men as CEOs but that, because of extremism, we all suffer from biases and manupulation of true facts!

Depends on the situation, but in many cases, the pay may be based on what the employee negotiates. So a man who can commit to lots of work time may get a better salary because he can show that he can commit to the company. Women may tend to focus more on family and not go for those kind of positions and thus not be able to negotiate for that kind of pay. Also, there may be fewer women in the upper positions because of family also, so the statistics could have less data.

Additionally, in some or many cases, a women who is working could be a secondary income to a family and the company will consider that in the pay they offer, so they could get away with paying less.

We, as women, contribute to this. Maternity leave is a huge issue. Many women will take a 6 month (or even more) leave of absense after having a baby. This puts employers in a 'pinch'.

I read a study not long ago that stated: because of our maternal responsibilities, we use more vacation and sick time then men.

Using more leave time along with Maternity leave, makes us appear less dedicated and less reliable.

Because the male is an arrogant pig and thinks his work is more important then A females. Which any person with one brain cell would know brains are brains. I have met some dumb women and some dumb men and some brilliant men and some brilliant women. I say equal pay for equal work. Leave the sex out of it.....Jerry G

If you make adjustments for maternity leave, then they aren't. The reason women make less on average is that their priority is family, not work. Because of this they have large gaps in their careers and other priorities at home. Who would you pay more, someone you know is in it for the long haul and is consistent, or someone whose priorities are elsewhere?

women are not paid less in smart work. but in case of hard work like labour women are not capable to work as like as man so they pay less.
