Suppressed, no. But I can see how some people may feel that way. White males have a long history of oppressing people in this country and are therefore allowed less leway in making mistakes. A racist remark from a white person or a sexist joke from a male brings up stronger emotion because of the collective memory of oppression. So, I would agree that whites need to be more careful about what they say, but that's hardly oppression, it's simple curteousy. Add that to afirmative action which can give minority students a better chance of getting into good schools based on race instead of competing with rich kids who have had private tutors and didn't have to work two jobs after school, and many cry foul. But they're full of sh!t, we're not oppressed.

Yes. Even though I am the minority where I work (the state government), I am still considered the majority. The cultural sensitivity training we go to implies that only "white" people are prejudiced and that is just not so. We have Black History Month, Asian Pacific Islander week, Cinco DiMayo Days, and nothing at all about European Anglo Heritage. As for civil rights, they seem to be for every race by white. People at this job are afraid to fire anyone who is a minority for fear of a lawsuit. So incompetent people stay on forever. So much for equal rights!
You want to know some cities to visit to see for yourself? Try New Orleans -- their Mayor wants to build a new "chocolate" city -- using green dollars from white people! Try Chicago or Detroit. You'll see what I mean.
One thing about European Anglo Saxon people when they came to America, they gave up their heritage and became just plain old Americans. Why can't other cultures do that? I am an American who is of French, Irish descent. Why can't other American's be American of ***** descent or of Hispanic descent? Doesn't mean you can't be proud of your roots --- that is unless you are white!
As long as white Americans continue to stand back and let our own rights erode away, then you will see that Dr. Martin Luther King (whom I admire greatly by the way) who had a dream has become a nightmare!

Actually, no; white people are not being suppressed. While it is true that white people are looked down upon more for any remotely racist comment, there are extremely racist people from ALL RACES. Although a lot of racism is geared more towards white people in the modern world. White people have been more racist in the past. Now, there are no clubs with a white majority that ban other races, but there are clubs that exclude white people. I personally think that this is wrong, even though I am not white (part german [about an eighth], but mainly filipino and korean).

Ok, ask your friend the last time he has seen an actual Native American individual walking the street. How and the hell are white people the worse treated race in this country? Your friend has been hittin' the hydro too often. I have never seen a Native American individual in person. I have never been to a reservation. They can't leave the reservation and there ancestors were hear before my ancestors arrived. I have gotten over my fear of boats. I think that white people should put themselves in situations where they are the minority to get a feel of how minorities feel every single day of their lives. Maybe then illogical rhetoric won't be spewed from their mouths. Maybe!!

There is validity in what you are saying. Just not to the extreme as in: "white people are now the worst treated race in the whole U.S." The real problem stems from "Some" people abusing others using the NAACP. "Some" people, unethically using the "racist-card" as a means of taking advantage of others illegally. It's abusing the system that was developed and designed to protect minorities. But "Some" people mis-use it to take advantage of the majority.

I think the whole world is wack! why should we be be held back or put foward cos of what our ancestors have done? you cant go to jail for ur brother murdering someone so why should u be a minority for a mistake in the past,i dont agree nor disagree with u, Some times I think there is the to much sympathy or doubt to peoples opinions of races and like the response to this question shows its still a sensitive question, but we are who we are we should be judged on the person we have become. We should be human....... yeah right like it will ever happen!

Treating someone poorly isn't necessarily suppressing them. Yes, I do feel many people from minority races view whites negatively, but who is treated the worst depends on the city. Some places whites are treated as well as everyone else, and others they may be treated better or worse than other races.

You are only suppressed if you allow it - regardless of color. Racism knows no color boundries.
Dead white people cannot be held accountable for what they did to now dead black people. Short of digging them all up and having a trial of the dead.
I do see some fear and carefulness in the way blacks are treated and as to how they are identified.
I do not like the term white, how about Caucasian American?
That is, if you want to be politically correct.

Where I live this is an interesting question. I live in a mostly white community although things are changing. I look white althought I'm half mexican, in which if I had come out looking like my mother life would have been really different. I do believe that white people are treated badly for things that most of us didn't do or belive in doing. But for that fact I think people in general are treated badly. I really do think as a whole for many many different reasons people are treated unfairly and badly.
sad really and a waste of time.

Where I live it is a pretty equal mix of a lot of ethnic backgrounds, and I'd say that there is more economic suppression that racial suppression. I live in a medium sized southern town. But a nice place to visit that is culturally liberal would be Athens, GA. Plus you have great history in that town from the Music scene.
