BS, Mathematics; MS, Meteorology; PhD, Atmospheric Sciences. It is happening but I'm not sure it is a problem. Neither am I sure of its causes. I'm still collecting information as many of you are. Possible causes are Solar activity and CO2. I know there is no consensus between climate modelers and meteorologists, although there seems to be consensus within those two groups. I try to read and learn as much as I can on this subject and I believe our government should do the same so that at some point the answers will become clearer to all of us. Meanwhile I feel that we all should discourage the use of fossil fuels which we know add approximately 1% to the greenhouse gases and rely to a much greater extent on nuclear energy.

It's absolutely a problem. We can continue to discuss the exact magnitude of the effect, but the fact that it's happening and that we know exactly why is irrefutable.
I know enough about the fidelity of weather and climate models to understand that the likelihood of them being reasonably correct is quite good. Also, the evidence is overwhelming. 2500 scientists from 113 countries met a short time ago and determined that global warming was no longer a question, but it was "unequivocal".
A consotium of oil companies have offered $25K cash rewards for any scientific paper that refutes or brings into question any aspect of global warming. Their product sales are at risk and they're fighting it every way they know how.
Plus. Even if it weren't as bad as most predict... doesn't it seem like a good idea to conserve energy, be more green, and send fewer dollars to the middle east? We're addicted to oil (even Bush said that). Time to kick the habit.

G'day MeekaBee,
Thank you for your question.
I don't have a science degree. My degrees are in history and political science.
Nonetheless, I consider that there is some global warming occurring. However, you can colour me sceptical about some of the alarmist claims by people like Al Gore. During history, there have been times when the climate has warmed and other times when it has cooled. It is therefore incorrect to imply as many do that climate change is something new that has started in the past 200 years.

BS Chemistry. I think the earth may be warming, but because the people behind the global warming agenda are mostly liberal and left, and think that the government is the only one that can make our lives better, if anything, and the fact that Hollywood got a hold of Gore's film and turned it into a spectacle, I really don't trust anything they say. It's politically motivated.

Working on BS in meteorology :)
Looking at evidence of average global temperatures taken from the ice cores in the arctic and antarctic, the average global temperature, with the exception of the ice ages, has been warmer than it is right on. Since we are just coming out of an ice age, it makes sense that the global temperature is going to rise. It's a natural process that has been happening for billions of years and it is going to keep happening with or without our help. There nothing you can do to stop it, it just happens.

I think it is a political football used by callus politicians to scare people. Clearly man made CO2 will likely raise temperatures a couple of degrees, with much greater output in the future.
Understanding of the issue and not the rhetoric made me come to this conclusion. The main spokesman is a blithering idiot. I know that makes me sound partisan but in fact, Al Gore is not a scientist. It is sickening what throwing a few billion dollars at scientists will do to their objectivity.

we are able to examine out diverse aspects of the aspects image and choose how they artwork independently, yet worldwide climate procedures are too complicated to foretell, especially under situations that could have under no circumstances till now existed. So even although all of us comprehend the final consequences of issues like greenhouse gases, adjustments in polar ice caps, loss of ozone conceal, and periodic version in image voltaic output, we don’t comprehend how they artwork at the same time as a planetary gadget. regrettably, the favored press retains speaking approximately worldwide warming, on a similar time as scientists that learn climate talk approximately climate substitute. The warming result from greenhouse gases is only 1 of numerous climatic aspects that we've affected at a worldwide scale. there is often a consensus between scientists that CO2 from human activities has greater the retention of warmth interior the Earth’s surroundings. what continues to be debated between scientists is what takes place next hence of greater CO2, alongside with organic version and different atmospheric adjustments that could the two offset the greenhouse result, amplify the effect, or create completely categories of shifts in issues different than temperature. it would take the sea and surroundings 1000's of years till now each and all the consequences of our previous activities are definitely considered. hence climate substitute is frightening - its not because of the fact warming is inevitable, its because of the fact we are tinkering at a worldwide scale with aspects that administration the aspects, and we've not any concept what the effect may be. as quickly as we parent it out, the challenge ought to be irreversible. All of my perspectives come from analyzing revealed examine, and my very own bias on how nature looks to artwork. BS organic worldwide biology MS evolutionary biology PhD woodland ecology
