Helloooo....that is why they are temporary jobs. The company can't treat you like an employee because they don't want the liability for you if you hurt yourself, commit a crime, etc. while at work. The temp agency pays you but they don't really "own" you, either, since you receive work direction from the company. It is the no-man's-land of the workplace.
Get enough temp experience and you'll qualify for a direct job with a company. When they bring in temps, remember to smile, introduce yourself, and offer to show them where the lunchroom is located.

I know what you mean, I've been seasonal help for a company also. I was told if I would do good I would be hired on permanently. I started out in the warehouse, then I was moved to the sales floor. I thought by learning all these different areas in the store I would have some job security. I called in on new years day to find out in which area I would be working in and they said "Oh didn't you know, you don't work here anymore". What a great way to start out the new year.

Temp jobs are not perfect by any means. However, if you're unemployed and not succeeding at finding a job, the temp services can be a lifesaver. Bills can get paid; food can be put on the table; and they can be stop gaps until you can find something permanent. When you're unemployed, any paycheck is better than no paycheck, isn't it?

my ex girlfriend was offered a full position at nordstroms. my best friend has been promoted a few times in american express. both started with temp agencies. it could be just the immediate need for a person or your lack of productivity. usually its the first.
