depending on what style and level reading
there are some young adult books by Tamora Pierce that are fantasy adventure
she has several quartets
the song of the loiness quartet which are
Alanna " the first adventure"
In the hand of the goddess
the woman who rides like a man
lioness rampant
these four are stories of Alanna a young girl who wants to be a knight when they only allow that honor for boys
the Immortals Quartet
Wild magic
Wolf-speaker
Emperor Mage
the realms of the gods
and the Protector of the small quartet
first test
page
squire
lady knight
These are after the Alanna seires, this is the story of Kel a young girl that want to join the knights now that Alanna has become a knight and convinced the King to allow girls the choice of becoming one, Kel is the first after the new rule set by the king and how she struggles to over come the stigma
for a little more mature books in the sci-fi fantasy section
there are several authors who write stories with stronge leading females
Mercedes Lackey
arrows of the queen
arrows flight
arrows fall
winds of fate
winds of changes
winds of fury
or the Diana Tregard investigations
Children of the Night
Jinx high
Burning Water
there are only three of these wonderful storys with this great character, the author had to stop writing about her because some crazy fan did something stupid.
but these are great books i love the character and wish offten that there were more ( there are a couple of short stories with this character as well but they are out of print now and hard to find i don't have all of them but i do a few there were published in Marion Zimmer Bradleys Fantasy Magazine they are
Night Byte
satanic verses
night side ( this one was the orginal short version of the later released Children of the Night)
or
any of her elementals series
like
gates of sleep
shadow of the serpent
fire rose
pheonix and ashes
or her Bardic Voices series
the Lark and the Wren
the Robin and the Kestrel
the Eagle and the Nightengale
Cast of corbies
Four and twenty black birds
i could go on forever on Mecedes Lackey books she is my favorite author of all time
or
Marion Zimmer Bradley
she has a series of Anthology bood called Sword and the Sorceress i think there are 22 of them and they are Short stories from many different authors the main theme is a strong female character. it will also give you a chance to try a lot of different authors to see how you like their writing stlye
Jennifer Roberson
Sword Dancer
Sword Singer
Sword Maker
Sword Braker
Sword Sworn
Sword Born
Kate Forsyth
Witches of Eileanan series i think there are 6 or 7 books to that series
Anne Mccaferty like Mercedes Lackeys has a lot of books with strong females
some are
Rowan
Damia
Damia's Children
Lyons Pride
or the
Accornia series
gosh there are so many its hard to narrow down to fit in the small space provided
this is just a small amout of whats out there
my best suggestion is to brose a book store and try new authors if you get anthologies there usually have between 10 to 20 short stories in a book and they are by different authors it will give you an idea of their writing style and if you like it then go for their books. there are several out there that just deal with female characters like
Sword and Sorceress
sisters of avalone
chicks in chain mail
there are also other themed ones that don't deal with just female characters but all the stories have to do with the main title theme like Castle fantastic all the stories will have something to do about castles
there are
castle fantastic
elf fantastic
cat fantastic
forest fantastic
wizards fantastic
( you get the idea)
Have fun and good luck i hope this helps you find what your are looking for
i stayed in the sci/fi fantasy genre but there are many catagories that can supply what you are looking for.

Probably the most wonderful independent female protagonist in all of literature is Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter. She overcomes so much and does so with such grace and dignity. Pax - C,

The ebook Lightning by way of Dean Koontz involves my brain. This ebook is a blend of suspense, motion, sci-fi, and romance, and the important individual is a feminine who braves her means via plenty of adversity for the duration of her lifestyles. I quite loved Lightning -- it stands amongst my favourite books by way of Dean Koontz. Best wants!
