maybe take in a sunset meal at cliff house, overlooking seal rock...perhaps take the helicopter cruise above the San Francisco area, you should ask a local about places to eat or see for whatever time frame youre here(cant go wrong with a walk and find thru Chinatown or lil Italy), cable car ride from the wharf to union square (good shopping and eating), catching a ballgame would be cool, make your way to the de young museum... cruise thru golden gate park,or the Japanese tea garden, the exploratorium, the aquarium, see if there are any plays or the opera is in, if its warm a walk across the gg would be good( the pier in sausalito(great eating , people watching, shopping) if youre a real distance walker, nothing wrong with cabbing it though), a bay cruise or day trip to Alcatraz (pack a nice picknic lunch), take a cab down Lombard...check the night lites from pikes peak...wander around for Latin food south on army...watch the city go round from the equinox on top of the Hyatt regency, hippies on the haight...fresh crab and shrimp cocktails and chowder bread bowls on the wharf...

You might like the view from a cable car (runs from Market St and Powell) all the way to Fisherman's Wharf. Then you could take a boat ride to Alcatraz.
