Nero is the application that writes data to writable or rewritable CDs and DVDs using your external drive. 24x is a measurement of your maximum reading speed, 10x is the maximum speed to write to rewritable discs, and 40x is the maximum speed to write to writable discs. (The 'x' refers to what factor of 150Kb/s the drive can handle.) There's a menu item within Nero to find out more about your drive's capabilities, though I can't remember exactly where it is.

That 24x10x40x is industrially accepted way to specify the speeds of that rewriter you have, it does not matter whether the thing is internal or external, IDE or USB or whatever.

The first number says recording to CD-Recordable at 24x speed of original drive; 10x following is saying rewriting to CD-ReWritable at 10x, 40x at the end saying no matter what CD media type it is the disc's data will be read in at 40x of the decades-old original drive's speed.

You can argue about that those numbers are at their max/optimum operation but since every drive is like that it is kinda moot to argue that point. You sure it is a CD drive not DVD drive?

CD-RW facilitates you to apply rewritable disks (RW) and recordable (CD-R) disks.... the kind is...as quickly as you write to a CD-R (besides the fact that if or not you utilize all the 650-700mb) disk, you could not write to it lower back. This makes the CD-R reminiscent of a disk you get once you purchase utility. A CD-RW disk capacity you could write to it, then upload extra records to it later, as much as the potential of the RW disk...you additionally can erase RW disks, and initiate throughout lower back with a (in certainty) sparkling disk.... The USB area facilitates you to plug this unit into ANY laptop that has a USB port, it is convient once you have a working laptop or laptop, meaning which you're able to do a disk (laptop) to disk (exterior) recording...as an occasion, if a pal has a disk you opt to repeat TO DISK, you could now do this with out having to repeat the disk on your hard stress, then copying it on your (CD) disk... yet another occasion is you could take this unit with you and reproduction a disk off of somebody elses laptop... yet another call for the stress you obtain is an exterior CD-RW.
