hello i am having trouble with my computer today i started up my computer and it started slow as heck it took about 10 to 15 min for it to become functional. and when it did i clicked on firefox to surf the web and it took at least 2-3 min for it to load.i opened task manager to end some programs and i noticed wmpnetwk.exe had 100% CPU usage but low mem usage and when i would end that one system idle process would shoot up to 99% and i couldn't end that one.but after 2 minutes wmpnetwk.exe would come back low at first then shoot up again.i don't think it's a virus.is there a way i can fix this problem?

WMPNetwk.exe=Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
Sould like there are some Media Player corrupt registry key and files and temp files in registry.
Clean computer registry and then can fix this problem

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

You can download and scan your computer for free.

Just to be safe, I would run your antivirus program in Safe Mode:
Turn your PC on or Restart. As soon as you see the black and white screen, press and hold the F8 key. Continue holding until you see a black and white menu. Safe Mode is F3 or F5.

Click Start, Programs, run your AV program, install, uninstall, whatever.

When it is finished, Restart.

You will probably find your icons messed up. No biggee. Drag them back into place.

To increase and maintain speed:

- Many users are not aware of how much RAM is used by wallpaper and/or a screensaver full of graphics. They run in the background and consume memory. (I have only 512mb RAM, run multiple programs simultaneously, and have set my wallpaper and screensaver to blank.)

I don’t do games, but I do know they are primarily graphics which need and use a lot of memory.

- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
then cl Remove.
There is also a “Disable All” button.
This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.

When you are working in a large file, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.)

Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag

Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.

From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart

click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup

click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)

All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.

This has a strong Windows Vista order. Slow start=Vista, having problems with Firefox=Vista, 100% CPU usage=Vista, low memory=Vista. If I am right and you do have Vista on your computer then I have read about every single one of these issues on computer tech forums on the net. Worse yet, very few of us computer nerds know much of anything about Vista (and I do not care to know) and therefore can not help. I am sorry that I am using you as a place to wine about Vista but you need to go to Microsoft and good luck if they will take responsibility and help you and after so many calls they will start charging you per call. Good Luck

sounds liek a virus to me.. give it a scan or two.. end the wmpnetwk process and see what happens. if it makes things better and you still have all the functionality of your computer take it off the startup list. google the file to see what it is.

just in case... good idea to copy your bookmarks and photos and document files to a cd in case it don't start next time. I would search the internet on that file to be sure it is not related to a virus

try emptying your system cashe.

Search for and delete all files "*.tmp"

Search for all files "temp" Delete the contents of them, do NOT delete the folder.

Perform Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Clean-up

Run Defrag.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
