i have watch Silent Hill so many times and i still don't understand the ending. did the mom and her kid die? was the world they were in was a dream by alyssa? if alyssa got the revenge that she wanted, why isn't the mom and her kid back in the real world? is there gonna be a second movie cause of this?

they are dead, the world they are in is actually purgatory, cuz there is a reason dark allesa is reffered to as "THE REAPER", grim reaper, devil, demon what ever you want to change that to... Dark allessa is like the devil, she sends out the cretures to punish the TRUE sinners, and since silent hill is "TAINTED" that means if you die in it you suddenly get sucked into the inferno, which is what i think the movie was modeled after DANTE'S INFERNO.... the mother and daughter and cop die while on the chase, and end up descending thorugh ell only to end up in purgatory, or the dream foggy state of peace and terror....and those who die in the movie are those who have been PUNISHED for their sin by DARK ALLESSA... i understood it AFTER i read Dante's inferno this year in 10th grade.... or more likely they are alive, like dante was, only trapped in a dead state

I have seen the movie and the ending is a bit puzzling until you remember that the movie was based on a video game. I believe they left the ending open to sequel because of that. They may make a sequel if the movie does well on video but I don't think it did well enough at the theatre to warrant a sequel.
As for the "why", it would seem that even though she was sucessful in helping Alyssa, she is still trapped in her world because Alyssa is a lonely girl and wants the company or maybe she has only been partially sucessful and there is still more revenge to be had.

I didn't understand the games OR the movie! But I like them both.
Basically at the end they were dead. As for everything else, I can't tell you exactly. I have no clue.
Sorry if someone hasn't seen the movie yet!

At the end, they find themselves in a different dimension.. If you ever get a chance, try playing the game. It's wonderful, and the ending will make alot more sense to you.

it's a dodgy movie based on a good video game
the transition didn't work well
just ignore the fact the movie was ever made

I have no clue but the part where they were 'cooking' the little girl on that metal grate over that fire was sick! Yuck, it made my stomach turn and I thought about it for weeks after watching it!!!

i thought i was a freaking show. but i think they died. or at least they arent in the same "world" as the father is.

I thought they were dead, ghosts. But why do you need to know, just watch the movie and go to sleep. A no brain-er.
