i have a small truck, when i pop the hood so that i can open it, there is not enough room underneath to raise?

it, most times it takes , 1 person to pop it and another person to open it.i need to be able to open it by myself.....in case of an emergency (fire), i carry a fire extingisher...an a battery charger.
any suggessions?

Hit the front of the hood with your fist right by the latch. It won't hurt it but should do the job.

Sounds like you either need to adjust the cable tension if possible or lubricate the cable with graphite.
