Do some Xbox 360 games require an Xbox live Gold account to play? I tried a perfectly okay disk of Gears of War, and it gives me a 'This Disk is not Readable,' while games like NFS Most Wanted and Call of Duty 3 work fine.

No, no games require a Gold Subscription to play unless you want to play online. Your problem may be that the disk could've been damaged some how (even though you said it was fine) or that there may be a problem with your disk drive, which happens every once in a while.

No game requires you to play online, unless it has no campaign. You're disc might be smudged or the 360 is screwing up is all. Happens to me daily, but I don't care that much anymore.

no gold package is needed for any games. check for finger smudges and take it to the nearest game xchange and have them clean it for u. hope that helps!!
