You can use it after the baby's first bath. Make sure you dont bath your newborn everyday they have sensitive skin that can become dried out easily, so daily bathing is not recommended for young infants. Bathing your newborn a few times a week will be good enough

Our pediatrician suggested using no lotion for the first three months. I was skeptical, but he didn't really need it until after then. Grapeseed oil (in the grocery store) is a good one for infant massage -- better than baby oil, which is a petroleum product -- and will soften the skin.
With using any product on the skin, most folks suggest testing on a small patch of skin and waiting about a half an hour to see if there's a reaction before putting it all over baby.
Hope this helps!

I would suggest waiting till the baby is at least 2 months old before using the baby oil.
As for the baby lotion, as long as it is hypoallergenic, it is fine to use that after after the baby is born.

You can use it right away. Watch out for soaps and cleansers though when you start bathing the baby. Johnson's Head and Body wash is extremely drying! I use Dove bar soap for sensitive skin and Aveeno baby lotion, which both work very well.

My daughter is 4 weeks old and I havent used baby oil but I put lotion on her when she first came home from the hospital cause her hands were scaly. I put lotion on her after she gets a bath and I put baby powder under her neck and in her fat rools on her legs. I think she likes it. A baby massage.

You can use lotion from the day they are born as long as it's hypoallerginic and does not have any scents added. My daughter had extremely dry skin and her doc said that scented lotion actually makes it worse. I recommend Aveeno Baby lotion.
