We are barely sliding by (as most people are these days) and don't know where to turn. Is there any agency out there to help struggling, low income people? We are in so much panic! It's never been this bad before and we don't buy things we shouldn't!

One way to increase your income is to work more hours. The other is to find a way to improve your qualifications so you can have better paying jobs. Maybe you can take some courses, go back to school. Maybe you can offer some services to people like babysitting, pet sitting, dog walking, car washing, snow shoveling or think of any service that you can offer and people are willing to pay for. Go to your library and borrow a book by Michelle Anton "Weekend entrepreneur : 101 great ways to earn extra cash".
For everyday living try making a budget: every week write down your income and essential expenses: rent, groceries, utilities and so on. Buy groceries on special, if you eat take out food, try to prepare meals at home, check you Goodwill or Salvation Army store, you can buy a lot of good cheap stuff. Compare prices of whatever you are buying and go for bargains.
I understand your problem and I feel for you but I believe that it is in you power to change it. The best way is to increase your earning power but you need to put some effort and creativity into it. Good luck!
