Is it because, socks slow them down and make there feet sweat?

They probably just wear lowcut ankle socks. If you're so curious, why don't you ask them and find out?

I think they do that because that for the following reasons.
1) THey are not wearing socks in their shoes to begin with. Back when I was in school, a lot of girls did not wear (even a few boys) did not wear socks in their sneakers, and at times it made the Gym Teacher mad.
2) They are either wearing sandals/flip-flops to school. ANd do not have a pair of socks in their locker.
3) THey are probably more comfortable without socks.
4) You do run better without socks. your toes flex better.

Maybe they forgot socks because that is really gross. You should wear socks with all gym shoes, you feet can get really nasty with out them. And socks don't slow you down.

while i have gone sockless, i think that most girls do prefer socks. with me, it was because i wore sandals or some other type of shoe where socks aren't needed and forgot to bring a pair. also, a lot of socks are so low that you can't see them. i honestly don't understand why some people don't wear them, though. i think that wearing socks is infinitely better than having blisters.

They aren't they just take them off when you're around. They've herd how you steal girls socks.

Maybe because they enjoy blisters?
I'm not sure, but it doesn't sound comfortable.
