Well not sure that it's a threat to freedom because at this point it's fairly voluntary for the average citizen...maybe you should pose your question to big business.
At any rate, what is more a problem is the hypocracy of those that promote environmentalism and push guilt complexes on the world....mainly Mr Al Gore with his new movie and Global Warming propaganda. You can't find a bigger hypocrite if you tried.
1.) He owns several very large energy hog type homes.
2.) He flies in private jets all over the world...consuming more fuel in one trip than the average citizen does in a lifetime driving their horrid SUV.
3.) His father and himself has made incredibly large sums of money from the oil he despises.
4.) He always travels on the ground my limo or large gas guzzling SUV.
5.) He sold all the Navy's oil reserves to his own company during the Clinton Administration at rock bottom prices (to his enormous financial benefit) because he said the US didn't have a need for the reserves...I guess buying all our oil from the Middle East and South America is better.
The list goes on. The American people need to do some research and expose this hypocrite for who he is and wake up and smell the dirt that covers him and his fellow bed fellows, the Clintons. Guess they have parted ways at the moment, but they are in the same class.
The big thing now is to jump on Gonzales for firing those attorney generals. What a joke!!!! Bush fires a handful and the world is ending. Ohhhhh the horror. Hell, Clinton fired ALL of the ones in place when he took office. ALL of them. Now that's not partisine politics??????
The media has such a one sided way of reporting the news and highlighting what they want. I don't even know why the American people vote....they should just let the mainstream media do it for them.
Same with environmentalism. The truth will never be reported. It's all politics.

How are you able to even compare the two? How can you even put them together in a question? It doesn't make sense.
It is like asking are oranges as great a threat to engine rust as Elves are?
According to Wikipedia, Environmentalism is a social movement to protect the natural environment, and Stalinism is a political and economic system.
Please do clarify. I am so interested in why you ask this!

No, Stanlinism is not rational, whereas Environmentalism is and is supported by most economics in terms of limited resources and the tragedy of the Commons

If by freedom, you mean just go on polluting as much as you like, then, yes, it is.
I'd say that communism is more of a threat than a clean environment, though, but then, that's just me.
