if you are converting music from a cd, you can change the setting so the songs have a lesser sound quality.

Open itunes and go to:
Edit:Preferences:Advanced (tab):Importing(tab):Setting(drop down menu):Custom:Stereo Bit Rate: Choose a lower rate.

It depends on what format your music is saved in .. is it Mp3 or AAC .. also you can change the setting for sound quality usually this is set at 128 kbps for stereo but you could lower it to 64 , this will reduce the size of the file .. to check this open ITUNES in Edit ( at the top ) click on preferences then go to advance .. this will show you your settings . Just remember that you are changing the sound quality as well as the file size . You can also change setting in your library too after your pod is recognized by Itunes ..

hi in?uisitive! yes, u can decrease the quality of the songs u import into itunes, which will also decrease the size and probably let you get more music on ur ipod nano. try this:

1. start itunes and get to the itunes "preferences" (under the Edit menu on a pc, and under the itunes menu on a mac).

2. then click the advanced tab, then click the importing button, and on the "import using" option, choose "mp3 encoder"

this will probably only change the size of songs you import *after* making this change, but it should help reduce the size of the songs u import!

once u get ur itunes set up for mp3 encoding, please subscribe to my FREE video podcast on iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=183309259
