If Bush vetoes the bill, he'll have to withdraw the troops even earlier because he'll be out of money.

That's the point of attaching the withdrawal provisions to the military funding bill. Bush can either take the money, and withdraw the troops by 2008, or refuse the money and have to bring them back sooner.

Or Bush could sign the law, take the money, and then try to ignore the parts of the law that he doesn't like. And there's only so many times he'll be able get away with doing that.

Well I think you've seen the microcosm of his 30% steadfast approval here, who no matter what he does or who he does it to, they will treat him like he's Jesus and they're the disciples. It was the same with Nixon, although Nixon was a better man by far. No matter how much evidence and testimony came to light with Watergate, Nixon's core supporters couldn't let go of him, as though president worship was tied to their sense of personal security and confidence. So for those 30% who will always adore him no matter what, nothing will happen.

And of course the Democrats want the veto. Bush's bumbling has already cost the GOP majorities in the house and Senate, the longer he hangs onto this unpopular war, and the more scandals that come to light now that Congress doesn't help hide his screwups and sheer crookedness, the more of those 20 GOP senate seats will change hands in 2008 and Giuliani will enter the White House in 2009 with veto-proof Democrat majorities in the House and Senate. That ought to be about perfect for America. Centrist Republican Pres, Centrist Dem Congress, Conservative SCOTUS. That could be some golden years there buddy. No one with enough power to really rob the people blind like the last six years and Evangelical extremists in charge of nothing.

The worst thing that could happen for the Dems would be for Bush not to veto their bill and take any of the blame off the GOP for Iraq.

Nothing.

He'll veto it, he knows what's good for this country and for the security of the American people.

PROUD.
Resolute and damned proud that America has the guts and integrity to stand up to this demented ideology of hatred, murder and domination.
The terrorists will only mark a withdrawal date on their calendar as their victory celebration.

The Dems would love it if he vetos it & the surge doesn't succeed. The public if they are thinkers will love it becuase it will stablize gas prices. If the press/(The Terrorist's 5th column) has done their job, the public will be outraged.

The bill shows that the democrats don't really care about our troops, they are using political blackmail with all the spending that they stuck in it.
