I had been searching for answers online and I cannot find any on how to clean the iron coils.

i would wipe the oil off with a cloth of warm dish washing liquid. most likely I would do this multiple times. take the coil out of its position and clean it. place it back the same way you took it out. then I would turn on the coil that you just cleaned and burn off the residue.
this should make the coil look good as new.

Remove the coils and the drip pans, Take the drip pans and soak them in Ammonia and Hot water. Dip the sponge in this water and clean the coils, If it is caked on use a SOS pad, and then rinse, try not to get the water on the prongs,if you do wipe dry and leave out until they are very dry, before replacing them.

They should just pull out of the plugs they sit in. You can clean them in your sink with soap and water, but just make sure they are COMPLETELY dry before plugging them back in. I suggest letting them air dry for an hour or two after cleaning.
I suggest taking out the catch basin below the coil and washing that as well. And I find that lining the basin with compressed aluminum spill guards helps to prevent nasty stains and difficult cleaning jobs from spills.

With the stove top turned off and the burners cold, you can lift them up, give a gentle but firm tug and they will dislodge. Use dish soap as it is very effective on oil and grease and wash them thoroughly. Don't use an abrasive scrubber as it will wear the metal coating. Let dry completely before re-assembling.

Pretty easy.. pull the coils (they come right out.. thyey are designed for that...)and wash them in the sink with regular dishwashing liquid.. just let em dry good before you put them back

Typically the coils are removable. Pull them out, wash them, dry them, replace them.
