You can visit Greece all the year!
Athens is a place that you can visit even in winter!
From April up to October the most appropriate place for visiting is one of the islands (in Aegean there are Cyclades,Crete,Dodekanissa, etc) in Ionian Sea there are Eptanissa or you can visit the beaches of Pelopponese or the beaches of Macedonia especially in Chalkidiki and Kavala!
From October up to April there are many many mountains for winter holidays that few know about them.Greece is a country full of mountains and there are plenty of choices. It depends on what you are seaking. If you want going for skiing ,meeting a lot of young people and having great night life you can go to mountain Parnassos in Arahova or Agoriani. The mountain Parnassos is not very far from Athens (about 2,5 hours by car) and it is also close to the ancient temple of Delphi(if you like archeology and ancient monuments, but this is something that you can find everywhere in Greece).
If you don't like all that noise you can go for skiing in Macedonia very close to Thessaloniki.
There are perfect winter locations in Karpenissi , near and over the Plastira lake, there is also mountain Pilio in Thessalia, which is also great even in summer because it is very close to the sea (and there are Skiathos and Alonissos islands which are magnificent).
But my favourite location for winter travelling in Greece is Zagorochoria in Ipirus (it is a prefecture western of Macedonia). There are close to Ioannina(a traditional town with a lot of people and a lake in the center) but those small villages (Zagorochoria) which are built in a very high altitude are going to take your mind.I believe it is one of the most beautiful places of Greece including the islands.I have been there winter and summer,it is great! And it is a different point of view of Greece that only Greeks have seen, tourists do not know these places!
Anyway, have a great time in Greece,I am sure you are going to love it!

I have been there about every time of year except maybe in the fall. In August you would want to stay near beach areas for 1) most shops or smaller places close inside the city for holidays......not the touristy areas though 2) the plus side is you can get better parking then and find a taxi easier
Spring time....weather great but cool for the beaches
I like May thru June......but last 2 years have gone in Aug to be with ones holidays. this time am going in July so should be warm
Nights out are open most any where and all the hotels or where you stay can tell you how to find them. There is a hotel in the plaka area (if remember right) that has a dance group doing island and old traditional dances of Greece and has good food.....
Am sorry though I don't usually go to the touristy places for am always with Greeks...you could try to find the local tabernas and enjoy the Greek life much more that way

Right now is a very good time, also May -June. July and August is also fine, but more crowded, more expensive and more hot. September-October are also great months for Athens.
As to where to go, there are many places, but I'll recommend to go on top of Lycabettus hill, for a great view of Athens, there is a good restaurant (rather expensive) and a less expensive cafe serving food as well. Also Plaka, Thiseio and Monastiraki and Psyrri in the historic centre are nice areas for a walk, bars and for restaurants. As for clubs, there are many nice clubs in the summertime near the sea, at Alimos, Glyfada, Kalamaki, if you take the tramway it takes you there.
Oh, and Athens is not dangerous, of course the night is everywhere a time to be more careful than during the day, especially if you go to not so high-class neighbourhoods.

Athens has a huge variety of places to go at night. It is best to have help from an Athenian but here're a couple of hinds:
For traditional Greek restaurants/taverns with live music go to Psirri or Plaka near Acropolis area.
For night clubs go to Kefelari, Kifisia (N Athens) or Posidonos Ave. (the sea side highway)
For bars etc, go to Burnazi, Kastella, Gazi, Thisio
Of course there are many more places that you might want to see. Like a Traditional Greek music place, rembetadika, there are a couple in Ag, Konstandinou str, or a Greek night club, in Iera Odos.
And these are just a few, preferred by tourists places. If you get to know any Athenians they'll take you to the really great places in Athens.
Have fun

I think May will be an excellent choice.
At night you can go to the area around Acropolis (Psiri, Thisio, Monastiraki etc) for good Greek food.
(in case you' ll visit Athens after June, you may visit the ancient theater of Herodion and watch a play).
Also, you can go to Kifisia, Kefalari, Peristeri, Bournazi, Glyfada, Iera Odos, etc. Of course an,Athenian friend, it will be the best guide.
Huh..and something else.. I'm walking down town Athens day and night, almost my whole life... ok it's not the garden of Eden there, but never, nobody annoyed me!!

The weather in Greece, and especially south is not bad anytime you travel.
Concerning Athens, I would recomen you Burnazi, with a very nice night life, Pireus, and also the south part of it.Glifada, P.Faliro etc.
Be careful in the night.Athens is dangerous, especially the places around Omonia..Dont go out alone very late..
Be careful also to your bag, while you are in the street.
Generally, you ll enjoy our hospitality, and our way of life...

When you are in the mood to do it!
Athens welcomes foreign visitors throughout the year. Night life, sight seeing and Athens are synonyms, so... don't hesitate to visit Athens whenever you want.
You can find elegant restaurants or simple tavernas, mostly appreciated by local people, nice bars and pubs, interesting shows or even take an Athens by night tour...
Welcome!
