My computer had iTunes, I used it with my iPod, pretty good. But then my computer died, so we purchased a new one (this time, a Mac). Since it's a new computer, the iTunes is new, so it's completely blank. My iPod, however, is full of songs, some of which I want to keep. But when I plug it into the computer, it asks if I want to replace my iPod with the iTunes Library, (which is nothing) so my iPod would be wiped clean, new start on everything. That's intimidating, seeing as I spent HOURS finding good quality songs on Limewire for my iPod. It would take me a good chunk of my life trying to replace a lot of those songs.

My question: Is there a way to take your songs and put them ONTO your computer, instead of the other way around? Sort of like uploading your songs to the harddrive. I think I heard somewhere about a program which allowed this, but if it exists, is it free? Help!

hi laura! nice move getting a mac ;) try this to get ur music from ur ipod to ur new mac and itunes:

1. start itunes and plug ur ipod into ur mac.

2. on the menu that appears in itunes when u plug ur ipod in, make sure u have the "manage music and videos manually" option selected (on the Summary tab of the screen that opens - check the box next to "manage music and videos manually").

3. on the left side of the itunes window where ur ipod shows up in the list, click the arrow just to the left of ur ipod name. the arrow will turn into a "down arrow" and display a list beneath ur ipod. click the "Music" item in this list and the music on ur ipod will be displayed in the right side of the itunes window.

4. now select all of the songs (from the right side of the itunes window) and drag them to the Library on the left side of the itunes window. now all of ur songs on ur ipod should be copied to ur itunes library!

once u get ur itunes library back from ur ipod, please subscribe to my FREE video podcast on iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=183309259

When you plug it in, you should see under "devices" on the left side of itunes. Click where it says "insert name here's ipod". Then, you should see in the middle of your screen an ipod. Look under that and you should see "manually manage music" click that. That should help.

*If you click that, than yes, you should be able to "Drag" your music from your Ipod to your library.
