No pap smear or physical for donating, just a questionnaire. It hurts a little bit when they first stick you, but for me the finger prick to test your iron is more painful than the needle. Once it's in you don't feel it. If you do, let the nurse know and maybe she can make adjustments. It's a little nerve racking the first time but it's not a big deal. I do it every 8-10 weeks.

Well I donate twice weekly. They remit for it too $25 the first time and $30 the 2nd time during that same week. You may get a bad stick occasionally, but it learns you not to go to that nurse next time. You will develop a small scar on your arms that will never go away, but it's no big deal. It stings a little if you have a smaller vein like me, but if your vein is in plain view when they put that gel on, then it won't sting as much. It takes about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours.
They say eat a lot before you donate, but that isn't necessary, don't drink alcohol though within 24 hrs of donation. Though it will not affect the plasma, it will raise your blood pressure during your initial screening (not supposed to be over 100). I drank a couple of beers before I came once and they turned me away because they could smell me and i was at 102. Drink a lot of water. When they pull the needle out after you're done, press hard on the cloth and raise your arm to the sky. I've seen some patients bleed heavily because they didn't apply pressure or because the nurse tore the vein too much when they took the needle out.
You save a lot of lives with just one donation. Great choice. The staff is always nice too.

It doesn't hurt any more than when they draw blood for tests.
Physicals with pap smears ARE a royal pain. But other than that most of the tests consists standing on one foot jumping up and down, touching your toes, reading the eye chart, blood pressure etc.

I don't think they give pap smears for donating blood. I never heard of having to take a physical. All I ever heard of was them giving a questionare. The blood is tested after they take it.

It is basically like giving blood. You will be asked the same general health questions, and the questions about the various risk factors. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids before (you really should have started a few days ago) and after, and make sure you have eaten something so you are less likely to feel sick afterwards.
