There are 3 Cup Champ Captains not born in Canada. Charlie Gardiner and John Gottselig both born outside of North America and the only other team that has won without a Canadian captain from the US is Derian Hatcher.

1933-34 Blackhawks, Charlie Gardiner, born in Scotland
1937-38 Blackhawks, John Gottselig, born in Russia
1998-99 Stars, Derian Hatcher, born in Michigan

1999, when American Derian Hatcher, who was born in Sterling Heights, Mich., hoisted the Cup with the Dallas Stars.

To find another team that won the Stanley Cup with a captain who wasn't born in Canada, you have to go all the way back to 1938, when Johnny Gottselig, who was born in Odessa, Russia, led the Chicago Blackhawks to victory. But Gottselig, a left-winger who played nearly 600 games for the Blackhawks between 1928 and 1946, was actually more Canadian than Russian, coming to this country in his youth and becoming a junior star with the Regina Pats.

When the Blackhawks won their first Stanley Cup in 1934, their captain was goaltender Charlie (Chuck) Gardiner, who was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. But at age 7, Gardiner moved to Winnipeg with his family. Nicknamed The Wee Scott, Gardiner suffered a brain hemorrhage only weeks after winning the Cup and died on June 13, 1934. He was 29.

only american that has won a Stanley cup is Derian Hatcher when he played with the Stars.

Stan Mikita wasnt captain till the 1976-77 season and the captain in there final stanley cup win was Ed Litzenberger from 1958-61 and from 1961-68 it was Pierre Pilote.

so there's 2 that aren't from North America and only one thats American and the rest are all Canadians.

There hasn't been, yet. Probably because the first European captain ever was Mats Sundin, and that was just in the last decade. However, since then there have been a few more non North American captains. Ex. Daniel Alfredsson. But a one word answer is no.

For the record, Derian Hatcher of the Dallas Stars (an American), was the only Stanley Cup winning captain who was not Canadian.

a lot of people have a problem with Loblaw, I am not included with that, but some people are on a witchhunt.

I do believe all Captains have been Canadien except for a lone american.

I would say Stan Mikita came the closest. Only one I can think of that was that close even. (I am pretty sure he was captain) Oh yeah, i think Naslund was captain when Van. almost won the cup but that other captain stole it. Moose-probably the best captain ever.

Ok who are the geniuses who gave Loblaw a thumbs down for that answer?
