1938 - "Kellogg Company introduced several new innovations, including food fortification efforts, the introduction of assortment packs, and the expansion of its facilities in Battle Creek and overseas. Kellogg's® Pep™ became the first cereal fortified with vitamins B and D through the "spray" method, marking the beginning of the cereal industry's food fortification processes." from the www.kellogs.com web site
During that decade, women worked in the cereal packaging industry at the Kellog facility in 1931. You can read more on the web site.
Check this web site. It has tons of information about the 1930's http://kclibrary.nhmccd.edu/decade30.html
There's one statement about refrigeration being made better, so there may have been the invention of the modern refrigerator, as opposed to the "ice box".
1930 first built-in refrigerator is launched by Electrolux
1931 Dupont produced commercial quantities of R-12, trademarked as Freon
1931 the first air-cooled refrigerator introduced by Electrolux
1932 Gibson, then owned by Frank Gibson, manufactured its own line of refrigerators.
1934 an innovation, the Shelvador refrigerator, was introduced by the Crosley Radio Corporation
1936 Albert Henne synthesizes refrigerant R-134a
1937 more than 2 million Americans owned refrigerators.
1939 refrigerator with one section for frozen food and a second for chilled food, introduced by G. E.
Take a look at the General Electric web site and the company history, also do a google search on Gibson refrigerators. I remember my grandmother having one of them.
Modernized refrigeration was a revolutionary concept in food storage in the home, because people didn't need to worry so much about their leftover food spoiling and making them sick.
There's a nice write-up on law enforcement in the 1920's and 30's at http://www.sirinet.net/~blkidps/protect.html where it talks about the mafia and organized crime, also the beginnings of communication structure in the law enforcement arena
There's an article on AmericanHeritage.com about the auto industry in the 1930's that says it was the number one industry in the nation during that time period. The title of the article could be better, but the information is good. Just do a search on that site for the article:
American Heritage Magazine
“SHUT THE GODDAM PLANT!”
April/May 1982 | Stephen W. Sears
... Well, them’s our jobs,” a man said. “We ... the best managed in America. It was
unquestionably the ... haywire. In the early 1930's Detroit auto workers found ...
Okay, that ought to get you going. Good luck with your project.

Amelia Earhart - first lady to fly a plane all around the world! Jazz music was popular - like Louie Armstrong, and swing music - like Glenn Miller.
I think the refrigerator was slowly comming into domestic use at that point. And food would be canned.
Also electrical appliances such as the vacuum cleaner would slowly be comming to domestic use too - along with electric lighting.
Jobs - well you would have had dressmakers, tailors, shopkeepers, maids of all work, coal men, chimney sweeps, shoe blacks (they shine your shoes for you on the street), ushers at cinema's, bus conductors/ tram conductors.......
As well as the usual butcher, baker, green grocer, fish monger ect. I couldn't tell you which were the most common as it would depend on what class in society you were. If you were poor you would be working any of the above jobs, if you were middle class you would be running a buisness, or be a lawyer, banker, factory manager. And if you were rich you would most likely have a house full of servants doing everything for you, and you would live a life of luxury and leisure.
Good luck with your project!
