It used to be true... plasma TVs in the past inherently suffer from image retention and screen burn especially during the first 200 hours of use due to uneven phosphor burning. Hence the advice you received above: if static image or logo (not uncommon in video games) is displayed for a certain period of time, the image or logo will be "burnt-in" and you'll see its remnant ghosting all the time.
However, advancements in plasma technology has largely eliminated this problem: now plasma manufacturers pre-burn their panels evenly in the factory to stabilize the phosphor before shipping them out, and introduce "wobbling" and "orbiting" functions which serve to shift the image subtly by detecting static image at preset intervals. Panasonic and Fujitsu plasmas have gained a reputation over pretty much being burn-proof over the last couple of years, with Pioneer rapidly catching up.
That said, it's wise to take some precautions when playing video games. Be sensible: take a rest from gaming every 4-5 hours; put on normal TV which fills up the screen for 15-30 minutes; then resume your gaming session.

Dude, it's a lie. My uncle has a plasma, i play on all the time. And he's had it a year. Sure, there's the danger of "staining" the tv, but normal tv channel logos, can do that anyway.
Don't worry about it, nothing will happen to it.

Plasma HD TVs don't have long existence. you could play xbox 360 on plasma. that is assume to have plenty extra effective coloration and pictures. yet you could spend much less on a liquid crystal show and you fairly won't be able to tell too plenty on the image high quality. solid luck.
