what do u think is the avg. tipping when you go out to eat in % i was a server and would like to know what people think

I think the average is about 5% because people are cheap and rude. If you can't afford to tip, get fast food. I usually tip 15% to 20%. Also aren't you amazed at the ignorance of customers? They will tip you the same if they stayed a half hour or two hours. You would think they would figure out that you are not making any money while they are taking up your table for 2 hours and adjust their tip accordingly.

i start at 20% and go from there
if the service was incredible i would go to 25%
if the service was lacking i would deduct from the 20%.
if the service was absolutely horrid i would leave a nickel

I'm a waitress so I always start at 20% but I've found that other people usually don't tip that well!
