I'm a highschool gir l and I've notice w/ my guy friends that they're always accusing each other of being gay or making gay jokes (like pretending to try to cuddle w/ another guy while we're watching a movie).
Why are they so obsessed with who's gay & proving that they're not gay? Teenage gir ls don't do this to each other.

it could be one of two things- they are either quite confident about their sexuality or they aren't. yeah it's the two extremes. back in high school i was like that (though i never called anyone gay, just made the gestures as you mentioned) and i never second guessed that I might be gay or what not. it was just all in good fun with my friends and i never thought about it how you mentioned (obsessed).
i guess it's a phase or probably your guy friends are just insecure about their sexuality... ask them about it and see what their bumbling responses are (yeah, they'll probably stutter).

That is just a sign male hierarchy. It is the competition of one male over another. Calling someone gay is derogatory by its very nature and is wrong. In many ways homosexuality is still rather taboo in our society, however, that has lessened over time. This is perhaps the reason you see them trying to cuddle as a joke. The really interesting fact is that male, in their daily live touch other males more than females touch other females.

Um yeah this is kind of weird for me to explain considering I'm the shy type of guy but here goes. I have a few friends that like to mess around they will call each other gay even act gay sometimes. They mostly mess around like this trying to freak out their friend. In short its a bunch of crazy teens screwing around. My friends that screw around like this are in no way gay in fact they are very much into girls. Most don't do this when girls are around its just something they do to play as a joke on the other guy when we are hanging out.
If you are seeing this kind of behavior they are probably not realizing that "hey there is a girl here so she might be freaked out by this". This probably means they are used to you as a friend..so to speak you are in the guy circle...things are different then a girl circle let me just tell you that...

Either you're friends have taken up drinking, or they just have a poor sense of humor. Teenage guys feel they have to prove their place in the world, and they want to appear as masculine as possible, for they feel it will help them get ***.

Well with a girl there's alot of pressure to be pretty. The same with guy except their pressure is to be manly. And to them gay is the opposite of manly so their very touchy about the subject.

I've seen teenage girls call people gay before. They use it the same way as men do.

Intimadation tactics ,almost same as bullying,the agressive act of making oneself look better than the other,often backfiring if given enough rope.

Its one way of getting the girls to like be attracted to them. Kinda put on a show for them. I know its retarded but thats all it is a way to get attention
