Hypothetically, socialism would collapse much earlier because an absolute political control over the world is impossible. However, we would be less critical to capitalism, which is originally based on exploitation of cheap work-force. This is more than obvious in today's post-socialist countries, where people form Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria are perceived as willing to work almost for nothing, while ex dissidents do not dare to raise their voices against new consumerism and liberal market. Concerning Marx's vision, I think they were never realized in socialist countries, but rather in Western ones.

Russia was more or less in poverty at the end of the cold war. It ran it's own government into the ground by biting off more than it could chew. Had they not of done it then and won the cold war, it would have happened soon after trying to control the rest of the world off of Continental Europe and parts of Asia. We'd all be very poor right now and in allot of political turmoil. We'd probably even see a civil war erupt. Communism works on paper. The Communist Manifesto really is a genius piece of work. It's the practice of the human being that screws it up. Some would be stuck in lower than poverty while others would prosper beyond huge. This only causes problems down the road and the USSR as it was, could not have held a global front as it planned to.

It seems almost irreverent to say so – given the millions of people who died because of it – but the whole Cold War thing was no more than a lack of communication. Both sides decided at Potsdam that the other was impossible, and they just stopped talking to each other. As soon as Kennedy installed the hotline, the Cold War ceased to be a threat to humanity. And the Cold War didn’t end with the collapse of Communism in 1991; it ended long before that, when Gorbachev and Reagan started being honest with each other.

If Russia won the war literally or figuratively...

Then Russia would be blamed for everything that is wrong in the world today.

That would actually be nice.. for the USA and all of its inhabitants to no longer be the worlds punching bag for all that is wrong with the world as we know it.

Does this help any?

Well we would have to see it from two different endings. We could have a literal victory for the Soviets in which they actually conquered America and Western Europe.

In this case i believe the Soviet Union would collapse from it's own destabilizing government and sheer size, or it may break into several states.

But I believe you're talking about if the ideals of communism spread over instead of capitalism and democracy. In this case, 3 different scenarios may happen. Communist domination would suffocate capitalism and its need to outsource and trade with foreign powers, and the world would be in one class and Marx's vision realized.

The 2nd scenario is that communism would cause great despair due to a global economic collapse, as one of the great faults of communism is that if there is no money to begin with no money can be spread.

The 3rd scenario is that over the course of a decade. Human corruption and greed would bring the down fall of communism in most nations, and the revival of democracy and capitalistic societies, which brings about more motivation for economic prosperity.
