I used to have a Omega watch, but after 2 and a half years, water started to get into the watch, and now Omega wants to charge $400 just to fix, maybe more if it needs new parts. Now Im thinking about just simply buying a new watch instead. What is the best high-end watch to get? Rolex? I thought Omega was supposed to be better than Rolex, so Im not sure. What are the quality high-end brands, preferably with a life time warranty?

Have your watch fixed...but take it to an independant horologist. That price sounds really unreasonable. I have been in the jewelry biz for 15 years and the classics are Rolex, Omega, and Piaget. But there are no lifetime warranties. Oh and by the way if you are wanting a new rolex I think they start out at $5000.00

Okay, high end watches get into the million dollar range, so you're going down the wrong path.

If you just want to spend $3-4000, you may want to check out Blancpain, Audemars Piguet, Chronoswiss, and Rolex. (Rolex is a higher quality watch than Omega, though I like Omegas better.)

All those brands will have watches made of steel or steel/gold mix in your price range. If you want to step it up, you can always get one of their complicated watches which are worth a lot more.

Also, an Omega will last a lifetime, so don't get rid of it just cause you're not going to wear it. $400 isn't too much to pay for it to be fixed (we just got our Omega back too) and it'll last a lifetime. We're planning to give our Omega to our first born son when he gets older. Or, you can sell it online (check out TimeZone: http://timezone.com) for an okay amount.

Here is a good website:

In addition to the Omega watches, I really like the ones by Baume & Mercier, Tag Heuer, and Swiss Watch International.

I guess it depends on how much you are willing to spend.
