Why cant we just leave the gays alone and get on with our live instead of worrying so much about what they do?

i think most people in america are homophobic, for alot of wrong reasons. homosexuals are normal people, they live everyday the same way we all do. all these stereotypes are wrong. everyone has the right to be whatever they want, and we have nothing else to do but respect the decision. i know people that are scared of gay people, and to this day i still ask myself why they do. they dont bite, theyre just normal people

I would have to agree. A majority of American society is homophobic in varying levels/degrees. I do think society is improving on that to a certain extent. However, people fear what they do not understand, and the conservative Christian right-wing has made homosexuality a "war on family and values," which is sad. I suppose everyone has to have something to fight against....

Hopefully people will grow up and realize that we're just people too. We're not going to eat their children, or convert them to being gay, and we just want to live and let live, and have the same rights and abilities that our straight counterparts do.

Sexual deviance is a non issue Politicians use to prevent conversation about real issues. Most people in American could care less what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes. Homosexuality is only an issue to homosexuals, the rest of us, the vast majority of society simply don't care one way or the other.

It really hurts to hear friends and relatives whom you've known nearly all of your life verbally bash you.

My sensei whom I've known for over 15 years loves to talk about "f*cking f*ggots" and how his son looks like one because he dyed his hair.

An Aunt of mine refused to get her GP lisence renewed because "now those damn gays can marry" (we're in Canada)

So people can say all they like that it's only an issue to us but the truth of it is many people are homophobic and make horrible horrible remarks often without another thought.

I don't believe that most of America is Homophobic. I beleieve that most of America falls somewhere along the Kinsey Scale but are afraid to admit it. As I read in an artical once "There are as many variations of erotic desires as there are people"

Now, on to the matter at hand. I believe that people living in larger cities are more open and less homophobic than small town people. Or so it has been my experience living in both the USA and Mexico.

I think the younger generation are much more accepting, it's the older and religious that have a tendency to be more prejudiced.
European countries are much more accepting and the more educated people become the more understanding they have.

Although I'm not, a lot of my friends are. I also hear SO many young kids these days saying "That's so gay" and I hear the f word a lot...sad.
