Why can't we just make things ourselves and have everything be free so we could just take what we want? I understand that money motivates people to work, btu there are good people out there who I'm sure would still work at making things....I don't understand.

before there was money, people traded the goods they made. Its very difficult for one person or family to make/grow all the things they need for their daily life. If we all had to do that then we wouldn't have advanced to being where you are typing on your computer.

Money came around when people wanted to trade for services... actions instead of things you can hold.

The first money was actually invented for use by prostitutes. Men would trade goods for a token and would give the token to a prostitute (who doesn't need a whole bushel of potatoes just for having sex). It proved to be an efficient system and eventually poeple starting trading the tokens among themselves for things other than sex.

We need money today to motivate people to do their work. Yes there are good people... but not enough people who are that naturally hard working and selfless for absolutely no reason. There has to be some TAKE if they are going to always GIVE.

When you do something at home for your family, you expect to get something in return, right? Be it respect, love, money, presents, or the freedom to do certain things. People can't just save up piles of respect from each other and say "I broke my arm, I can't cut this wood today... so all that respect I've got from you guys who used my wood.... I'm going to use that and you guys can all take care of me for 2 months while my arm heals"... how would the community decide who takes care of the wood cutter? They all bought his wood... but they don't have time to take care of him, they have their duties to the community too...

Society just can't advance without the exchange of goods and services... and money is just a much more efficient way to trade those good and services and get the things you want and need.

Even if this was feasible (which it isn't) how many people do you think would still put in an 40 hr work week if everything was "free".

Man has bartered since the beginning of time, it's how determine our self worth. It's bad enough 90% of the population has to currently work for the other 10% lazy welfare bastards who believe in the same system as you.

Run for the liberal party, you'll get in for sure.

There is a long answer I could give but with the sate of the human race today it is not possible to try a Utopian society.

How would we gain everything we need? going back to the barter system isn't feasible anymore.

Read Thomas More's Utopia and think about a life like that.

I guess we could go back to the barter system , but Alas there must be a reason why that idea didn't work to begin with .
