turning the pilot to off does not mean gas keeps coming. Even if it blows out accidentally the gas flow should stop. Since you never use it I would turn off the gas at the shut off like the other people said. A pilot light will cost you roughly $5 a month to leave on. If you have more questions just post the model number and I can answer them no problem.

Depends on the model. But, you can turn the gas off at the valve and let it burn out. When you do want a fire, you'll have to go through the trouble of re-lighting it. Usually not a big deal, just turn the gas back on at the main valve to the fireplace, and turn the lighting switch on and light it. Newer, nicer models have electroswitches that allow you to turn the gas on as needed by way of a wall switch without maintaining a pilot light.

No! there should be a valve on the fireplace on the incoming line next to the unit.
If not find the gas line shutoff and install a in line valve. WAL-LA

i've got have been given the comparable ingredient happening with a Charmblow CGN300TQ, interestingly like 12 million different human beings. that is not that the flame lifts up and might't ignite the gasoline while it turn ons, that is that it is going out on an identical time as that is working. Poof! Zip. Nada. not something. i visit attempt vacuuming it out and rubbing something that feels like it would make an electric touch, and then vacuum back. between those, Charmglow gasoline grills, and attempting to discover areas for something, i might say Charmglow is incredibly plenty DOA.

Nope... if you have a pilot light.. either turn off the gas valve in the summer time and relight it when you wanna use it or replace it with an electronic ignitor...

NO. You can always relight the pilot in winter if you use it. Shut off the gas. Save money.
