Sounds broken, but you need to have it checked to be sure. They don't cast broken toes. They only tape them.

When something turns blue or black after an injury there's a good chance it's broken. Get it Xrayed as soon as you can. Sometimes a broken bone can cause problems if it isn't seen right away. It's your foot so you don't want to ignore it or you'll have trouble walking. Go to the ER! It may be a sprain but have it checked to be sure.

It could be a cracked bone, a stretched ligament ,or a pulled muscle. You could ice it, heat it, or alternate ice & heat, wrap it, put a topical (aspercreme?), on it. You can go to the doc , but any time i`ve gone for hurt toes,he`s done 1 of the above.

Ice it for 20 min.
Elevate it high
Put a magnet on it

Sorry, but it's probably bunions or hammertoe, I just had a bunion removed(surgery) I know these things....
Go to an orthopedic center, not a pediatrist.
I hope I helped!
