My ex's son is graduating high school in May and I have NO clue what to get him for a present. My ex and I are great friends and co-parents to our 5 year-old daughter. I talk to my ex's son any time that he calls. He has no clue what he wants, has no computer or internet, and I've never had to buy a graduation gift. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. :)

He's an 18 year old boy, and I'm not sure what his interests are or if he's going to college, but I'm hoping so. Would a used laptop be tacky? I'm not rich or anything.
He's my ex step son so ewwwwwww, I wouldn't sleep with him...that would be like incest to me.

What is an appropriate amount of money? I'm so new to this.

The ex is actually my roommate right now (yes, I know...it's strange but we are great friends so it works out for our daughter), so we'll probably go in on something together or he'll tell me to get something for his son because he HATES to shop.

What's your price range? A laptop would be nice or maybe buy him something that he would need if he were heading off to college, dorm supplies like towels, bedding or a set of luggage. I would say at the least, an engraved pen and pencil set.

I personally wouldn't go with a used laptop. You may want to talk with him about his plans for after graduation. If he plans to travel then you can do a really great backpack. I always tend to go with sentimental gifts that are engraved to mark milestones...a watch, a manly bracelet, etc...

If you can handle it financially, I would say between $75 and $100.

Most special gifts should come from the real parents, so
yours does not out shine theirs. If you work, a money
card with a $50. or $100. bill enclosed would be good.
I really think a leather zippered portfolio will be useful
for job hunting or on a new job, and also to keep papers
for college collected. That hug and kiss of Acceptance
for a diploma well earned will mean the most.
