I would consider adding another 512MB (or more) of memory as that seems to be your bottleneck.
Vista itself requires a minimum of 1GB of memory (you have half of that)

I wouldn't pay mind to armosnake. There's no need to format to remove any unwanted software you may have.
Go your control panel and click on 'add or remove programs'
there you can remove what you don't want.

The minimum reccomended RAM for Vista is 512MB which means you don't have enough RAM to run everything else properly. You need at least 1.0GB.

Compaq....theres your problem. Format the drive and re-install a fresh windows copy, but make sure u DONT use the CD they gave you, get a copy from a friend and use the CD key that came with your computer. Compaq loads a bunch of useless software on your machine that slows it down.

Get rid of Vista (for now) and put windows XP or windows 2000 on it. Those OS's will not perform as horribly as Vista in its current condition.
