Just kidding. I bought a laptop with WSXGA+ (1680x1050) a couple weeks ago, and tried playing Unreal Tournament. It wouldn't run at a 1.6:1 ratio, even a smaller one (ie 1280x800), but it did run at 1280x1024. It did look somewhat stretched, but could have been worse.

Some games do have wide-screen support, this includes most newer ones. It's best you try them out and see if they offer it or not. If they do, great! If not, well, not much you can do, sorry.

If the game supports wide screen and your card does you'll be fine. Most of the ones I have played do. I have played FEAR (import by the way) on my ViewSonic VG2030wm and it looked great. Also running 640MB nVidia 8800 GST OC so I'm sure that helps.

Pretty sure DOOM 3 has w/s setting also, haven't put it in new computer yet.

it's a matter of resolution and ratio my friend. i play all 3 of them games on a widescreen and they don't look too bad at all. just make sure u use the right resolution to fit your screen, you can change them from the video options in-game. i think the ratio option u need is 16:9 too

May I suggest, take your portable laptop with you to a local Sam's club.

Get a friend to go with you who has their membership card if you don't wanna pay.

Request permission for them to hook up your laptop to one of their free preview stations they have set up.
