Generally, modeling agencies that have to advertise in magazines (Barbizon, John Robert Powers) tend to have clients that don't get as many jobs, or not very many clients at all since they have to advertise. They ask for money for the training, but usually you don't get much back even with a few modeling jobs.
I'd recommend an actual agency. They'll train you if they think you have potential. I had a friend who went to John Robert Powers, which is similar to barbizon. She paid a lot but ended up learning things she already knew and not getting many jobs after. But then she went to an agency and gets a lot more jobs now, so I'd recommend that.

yes-waste of money unless you are completely committed and dedicated. the one I went to was useless anyway, but I am from a smaller town. we even did yoga one day! we had our own fashion show/model walk for out friends and family and then a big show in Denver, but no one was recruited. ( I did not attend because I had a soccer game) I hated the entire thing and felt bad my mom paid for it. it seemed so trivial and I did not learn anything. I would not recommend it because you will not get your money's worth. I believe it was like $2000. There are other routes I am sure so please check them out first!

Never have. Nor have I seen an interview with any successful model with her sitting there saying, "Wow, I don't know what I would've done or where I would be if I hadn't seen the ad in the back of Teen Magazine."

I did about 17 years ago. While it was pretty coll for a junior high girl to say she was a "model" and learning fashion and make-up it was not worth it at all. I got no jobs. I did get a nice set of make-up brushes and a portfolio of photos (all of which my parents paid for).

WASTE OF MONEY! Hire someONE or just do it yourself! Read about successful modeling careers and try to imitate them.
