need to know how to fix a thumbprint size dent in a floating hardwood floor...any quick suggestions would be helpful!

The only way to really fix the problem is to replace the damaged board. I'm not sure if your floor is laminate or real wood, but a single board can be replaced by a professional. The job takes less than an hour and shouldn't cost too much. You can try hiding the dent with filler putty but it sounds a little too big for that method to work well.

In softer woods you can iron the dimple out. You might want to try this. Just take the iron that you iron clothes with turn it to the highest setting. Take a spray bottle of water and dampen the floor and use the iron on it as if you were ironing clothes. If you have a finish that you want to protect place a cloth on it and iron the cloth. Hope it works for you.

it needs to be replaced.
unless you are VERY handy, call the floor guys.
if you try it yourself, you may open a can of worms.
