Scotland has two sides. One side is the picture postcard perfection with snow peaked hills, ancient castles, mist covered lochs and men in kilts eating porrage and drinking whisky till the wee hours of the morning.
The other side (and the most realistic if you live in the central belt which covers Glasgow, Edinburgh and everything in-between) is a scum ridden hell hole full of graffiti, broken bottles and ten year olds who will mug and rape you for the change in you pocket. I suppose the nearest equivilant is the war torn towns of eastern Europe only slightly worse as the people activity choose to live this way rather than in a decent society which is easily available to them.
Also, don't forget the bigotory, racism and general hatred off all the human race.
If you do ever decide to vistit I have added a website to keep you right. And remember, the reason that countries like the US, Canada and Australia have so many Scottish expats is because Scotland is a **** place to live.

On the other hand maybe I am just having a bad day.

O flower of Scotland,
When we see,
Your likes again,
We fought and died for,
Your wee bit hill and glen......

First the physical description. You can divide it into four parts. In the south you have the southern uplands - hilly and not bad agriculture. Then you have the central lowlands where we all live. Built up and dominated by Glasgow and edinburgh. Then we have the highlands. The west is less populated than the East as there is a plain around aberdeen. The highlands are very mountainous. Most live in valleys (Glens) or on lochs. The far North is pretty boggy and empty. Then we have the isles which are different from place to place.
To describe Scotland as a place is beyond my ken and I'm a Scot as we are all individuals and every region has it's traditions, accents and even architecture. It would be like asking how to describe the USA.

I live in East Yorkshire - England. I have only been to Scotland once, but it is a beautiful place and some of the scenery is 'out of this world'. I only found one problem with it and that was - It is very cold, or at least it was when I went, at the end of May 1998. !! xx

My home Edinburgh is a beautiful historic city,It has it's problems like any other Capital,(John D must have had a bad experience but with his attitude I can understand why ) we have a castle,a palace. a volcano, art galleries, museums and the worlds biggest arts festival. Glasgow also has some wonderful parts as does Aberdeen.Dundee and Fife .The weather is, shall we say - unpredictable !!

the big cold bit at the top of england!
never been there but I understand it's very scenic in parts. If On the Wagon says it's nice, it must be true. But then he says he's on the wagon! (A Scotsman... On the Wagon?...contradiction in terms, surely?) Only teasing Wagon

It is a beautiful place, that only has one drawback- it's full of Scotsmen. But then so is England these days.
