The main theme of "The Matrix" is the importance of myth as a mirror that is an archetype of our own time and our own life.

The Matrix is a deep, well thought out movie trilogy. Most people say the sequels arent very good, but that is only because they can not realize the entire story. Neo is Jesus Christ. He was put on the Earth to save the human race from the Matrix. Jesus was put on Earth to save the human race from sin and evil. The entirety of the movies is just trying to let you see the struggle Neo went through to realize his true self. Self Awakening. The Wachowski Brothers wanted you to see that no matter what, you never really are free. You always have to answer to someone or something in life, there is no free will. You never really make your own decisions. We are all here to do, what we are here to do. When whatever that is, is finished, you die. The cycle continues indefinately. Just as at the end of the Revolutions, when the Oracle says they will see Neo again, she is talking of the never ending reincarnation of the human mind.

I believe that the Wachowski brothers were trying to say that a good movie can be ruined by two crappy sequels.

Maybe not.

I guess that the message is one of sacrifice and belief. It's not really the kind of movie with a moral, but the whole thing has a biblical feel to it. Check out Google to find hundreds of lists of biblical references in it. ie. Neo is Jesus. His name (Neo = New) etc

I thought the main theme was that in some form or another we are slaves to a system. We have no control or no voice to live life how we want to live it!

That there could be a world out there that we might not know about. It's all based on the philosophical idea that reality might just be some sort of figment of our imaginations. Reality might not be real. Scaryyyy!!!

Or.

That Neo is the chosen one. Wake up to the TRUTH!

Resurrection, purpose, and choice. It is really more complex than this though. Neo is Jesus who ushers in peace between the machines and humans by sacrificing himself against Smith, the Antichrist, in the last movie. This is he abridged version.

That everything you know, Everthing you have come to belive, and everything that surrounds you that makes you comfotable might not exist. This world that you know might be a dream world. Like he saidin the movie, "do you think that is air that you are breathing?"

I think it the history of sequels, the only one I can think of that was more completely unnecessary was "Weekend at Bernie's 2".

The third one was just absolutely tedious.
