Well, first of all they had a relationship even though both sets of parents were totally against such a thing.

Then, they went ahead and got married, to make it even more difficult for their families to break up the relationship. And then they, ahh, "consummated" their marriage, so that the church would not be able to annul it. (There was no divorce in those days, but sometimes marriages could be annulled.)

Finally, when things got too hot, they planned own fake deaths, which of course led to the tragedy of their real deaths.

Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Romeo and Juliet defied their parents (there was a feud between the two families) and got married.

When Romeo got into a fight with Tybalt (Juliet's cousin) and killed Tybalt (Tybalt had killed Romeo's best friend Mercutio), the Prince of Verona banished Romeo.

So then Juliet planned with Father Lawrence to fake her death and have Romeo come and rescue her from the tomb so they could both run away and live happily together.

But the message from Juliet/Father Lawrence goes awry and Romeo doesn't hear about the plan. You know the rest.
