The total is 39 days for the winner. Yes they give them little to eat. When it first aired they used to give them rice. Now they have to fend for themselves. They do have reward challenges for food sometimes, but usually it is just a few who win it.
Meanwhile, the taping crew, and Jeff, are also on the island. But, they are in tents and have lots of food. Mostly chicken, Jeff once said.

On the present Survivor I believe they have to stay on the island for at least 39 days. However I have heard that on previous Survivors the contestants are given food when the cameras stop rolling.

The amount of time they stay depends on how long they stay in the competition, but I think the 39th is the last day overall.
I don't know if it's true if they have "next to nothing to eat", but that's certainly what it looks like-if it's not true, I'm sure anyone who knows the truth has signed a thousand pieces of paper preventing them from revealing the truth and not being sued because of it; so if you really want to know, go try out for it!

Richard Hatch stated in the most recent People magazine that the production crew gave food to some of the contestants and in order to buy his silence, they promised to pay his taxes on his winnings. I think they have to give them some food....no way they could let them starve to death.

They are there for 39 Days. They eat what they can find and they also catch fish and sometimes get food at reward challenges!

39 days...and they win food in challenges and find it on the island so they have some...but little...that's why they lose a lot of weight

Its a reality show..nothing is real on TV expect weather and news, and a few other things.

I have watched every season.....
I do not believe they give food to certain people....the way they look proves me right.
If you go on that show, you better have survival skills, you better know how to start a fire and catch fish, and you SURE as hell need to know how to suck up your complaints & shut up!

just look at how they looked before the game started.they really starve them out.they look like crack heads after the show finishes

abotu 38 days and they really do starve these people if they can not feed themselves.
