My car, a 1999 ford windstar, stopped at the traffic light today, and I couldn't forward, only backward, when the light turned green. After I heard a creaking noise, which seemed like I crashed, my car stopped moving, I pushed the accelerator, but still didnt move. Any tips to fix my car?Steps? (the engine is working but only goes BACKWARD)

You have the FORD AXOD transmission. The #1 failing transmission ever built. I am willing to bet you have 90K to 120K on this van when the transmission failed. If you love the van then you’re looking around 2500 to have the transmission rebuilt. If you go with a new one, you’re looking around 3500 to 4000. I have spent a lot of time repairing these transmissions when I worked to AAMCO Transmission. I have seen enough of this transmission to say that if I EVER buy a ford again I'm pulling the transmission and putting in a Chevy transmission. I will never use another Front wheel drive ford transmission again in my life. Especially the AXOD AXOD-E and the XOD Transmissions. They are all trash and should have stopped being used when ford found out about the problem in 1989. The problem with the transmission is they did not drill enough holes in one of the main parts that helps lubricate the transmission. The transmission basically sezies up. You have reverse simply because it runs off a different clutch pack and planetary gears. Also because you have fewer miles going in reverse then you do going forward. Take it to a good transmission shop (Most offers free towing if you have them does the work) and have them rebuild the transmission. If you don't like the van find out if the dealer will give you something for it on a trade in and get something new.

It sounds like your transmission to me, has your car had problems with moving forward lately? My mechanic told me that when your transmission goes out, usually the only thing you can do is drive in reverse, and thats because driving in reverse is a lot easier for your transmission to do than it is for it to drive forward. Maybe if you're really really lucky you may be out of transmission fluid. If it is your transmission, then you're probably looking at gettin a rebuilt transmission, which including labor can cost you anywhere between $1000-2000. :(
My car is not even worth that much so I'm just going to bite the bullet and buy another car.

i own a shop ,and you either just had a cv joint fall out of it,or you have lost all forward gears in it,which means the transmission is gone out,i have seen one cv joint go out which would be the pulling side, and it wouldn't move, but it has some problems that need to be checked and repaired, good luck i hope this helps.

Transmission has died... loud noise may have been in the torque converter... sounds more like a planetary explotion - go get a rebuilt installed.

Sounds like a transmission problem. That can be pricey, especially if it's an automatic.

Sounds like you might need a new transmission or possibly the linkage.

sounds like it's time for a tranny rebuild or replacement. let me ask you: when you hit the gas to try and go forward, did the engine rev like it was in neutral or park? if yes, def. transmission problems.

sounds like the drive gear has stripped, and the reverse gear is fine. you will need a rebuild, or a new transmission. gonna be pricey either way.

Hate to say it, but it needs to be towed to a reliable transmission shop.
