Is there a term for this kind of word? Like, pair of pantS, not just pant, or pair of pant? I can't really think of any other examples of this right now, but I'm curious as whether there's a term for this!

Thanks very much in advance!

There's a term for it but I don't remember.

Scissors
Pants
Pliers
Glasses

It seems to be for portable objects that consist of two parts that are mirror images of each other.

Precisely because it has two sharp cutting edges put together so it is a pair, therefore you refer to it by its plural form because you need both of them to cut anything. Therefore it cannot be scissor. These are nouns that are pluralized from the start, like tongs.

because a pair of scissors has 2 blades and they are a pair so they are plural.. so the word is "scissors".
