If it's HER clarinet, then she should be cleaning it, not you. Part of the responsibility of "learning" and instrument is learning how to care for it, not just to play it. I think you are focusing on the wrong question. How to clean it is NOT your problem, it's your sister's problem to figure out.

If I were you, I absolutely would not do it, but I'd explain why. It sounds like it's time for you to start standing up for your rights as an individual, and not as a caretaker for your sister. This is an important point not only for your development, but also for hers.

When I played clarinet I had a swab cloth that was attached to a metal weight and I would take the clarinet apart and pull the swab through each piece. That's how you typically clean it, the swabs are available at most music stores.

I would never think to put it in a dishwasher, but I don't know if it's harmful.

uhh, no you cant stick it in the didhwasher. even if it is fake wood, it will get mold on it then you really wont want to touch it. your clarinet should have come with a little towel. if not just go to your local music store and buy a cleaning kit.

DO NOT STICK IT IN THE DISHWASHER! go to your local reputable music store and ask them for help.
